Effective Treatments for Plantar Fasciitis

Are you feeling pain in your heel, or across the bottom of your foot? Does the pain worsen after exercise? You may be suffering from a common condition called plantar fasciitis. While this condition can be painful, it’s also treatable. At Stow Family Chiropractic, our chiropractic staff is experienced with helping our patients recover from plantar fasciitis, using various treatments such as chiropractic adjustments, custom orthotics and therapeutic laser.

What is Plantar Fasciitis?

The plantar fascia is a band of tissue that runs along the bottom of the foot, connecting the heel bone to the toes. The fascia supports the arch and sole of your foot and helps you walk. Too much pressure on this area of the foot can damage or tear the ligaments, resulting in pain and inflammation known as plantar fasciitis.

The most common symptoms of plantar fasciitis include pain on the bottom of the foot/heel, pain first thing in the morning or after a long period of rest that decreases after walking or movement, and pain after exercise or activity.

Causes of Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis is most common in active people between the ages of 40-70. You are at risk for developing plantar fasciitis if:

  • you are a long-distance runner or dancer
  • you have a job that requires you to be on your feet for extended periods of time
  • you have structural imbalances, flat feet, or unusually high arches
  • you wear poor quality shoes with improper or insufficient arch support
  • you are overweight or obese

How A Chiropractor Can Help

Our chiropractic care clinic is here to help you find natural relief from plantar fasciitis. We’ll use a variety of modalities of treatment, such as chiropractic adjustments, therapeutic exercises and therapeutic laser. We will also scan your feet using a 3D digital scanner to identify the structural imbalances of your foot and create custom orthotics to better support the 3 arches of your foot and the entire structure of your body.

Therapeutic Laser

Therapeutic laser, also referred to as Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) or Cold Laser Therapy, is an FDA-cleared medical treatment that provides a safe, non-invasive, drug-free solution for reducing inflammation and acute or chronic pain. The laser projects light photons deep into your cells, which stimulates the cells to produce ATP, the source of energy for every cell in the body. An increase in ATP increases cell regeneration and communication. The FDA has approved therapeutic laser for plantar fasciitis because of how it effectively reduces pain, inflammation, swelling and accelerates the healing process.

Custom Orthotics

Custom orthotics can decrease or eliminate the pain and discomfort caused by plantar fasciitis by properly supporting all three arches of the foot and minimizing the stress put on the plantar fascia that occurs when you stand or walk. Call our office to schedule your 3D digital foot scan and order a pair of custom Foot Levelers orthotics!
