Decompression Therapy for Spinal Disc Issues

What is Decompression Therapy?

Decompression therapy is a non-surgical procedure that effectively treats back and neck pain due to various causes including injury, obesity, inactivity or over-taxing of the cervical and lumbar muscles. The machine uses gentle intermittent digitally controlled distraction (stretching) which unloads and separates the joints of the spine reducing the pressure on spinal discs and facet joints.

How does Decompression Therapy work?

Spinal Decompression begins with a series of sessions typically 3 times per week. Each session is approximately 12-20 minutes. During each session, therapeutic laser is applied as well to help reduce inflammation, enhance pain reduction, and promote further healing of injured tissues.

The treatment effectively enhances the healing process and often renders quick, effective pain relief that enables most patients to return to a more active lifestyle. Research to develop this procedure was conducted by prominent physicians, engineers and technicians at major teaching hospitals.

How Decompression Therapy is helping our patients…

“I had been struggling for almost a year with extreme lumbar and hip pain due to 5 bulging discs caused by Degenerative Disc Disease and Osteoporosis in my spine.  My range of motion was poor and I was experiencing chronic daily pain.  I received Facet Injections through my primary care provider who suggested my next step would be L3 Nerve Ablation.  It was at this point in time that I sought the care of Dr. Whittemore.  He assessed my situation and created a tailored treatment plan of Therapeutic Laser and Decompression Therapy.  After the first 12-visit reassessment, I felt remarkable results.  Not only was I feeling improvement, but I could see the results on paper from my surfaceEMG.

After another 12-visit reassessment, I continued to see more remarkable results.  It’s been 6 months and I feel that Decompression Therapy has been critical in improving my range of motion and decreasing my chronic pain.  I would highly recommend Dr. Whittemore and Decompression Therapy, it has truly provided me tremendous relief.” – Karen R.

“After a serious car accident, I was in a tremendous amount of pain. The kind of pain that affects sleep, my mood and overall ability to function as a mother to two young children. An MRI disclosed multiple disc issues and the spine specialists suggested surgery as my best bet for treatment. Dr. Todd provided a life changing alternative, decompression therapy.

1-2 treatments per week provided relief I was not seeing from any other therapies (Acupuncture, diet changes or pain relief medicine). My only wish is that I started it sooner. I highly recommend this option for those who are seeking relief without going the surgical route. Thank you Dr. Todd & staff!” – Kara T.

“I have been a patient of Dr. Todd’s at Stow Family Chiropractic since December 2021. I was experiencing back pain for 3-4 years due to a lumbar disc bulge and spinal stenosis and it was affecting my day-to-day work and social life. I am a carpenter and have a labor-intensive job and after trying a couple of rounds of cortisone shots, nothing was reducing the pain enough that I could work pain-free. I was ready to schedule an appointment with the surgeon before my wife convinced me to try decompression therapy.  I completed 3 rounds of 12 decompression sessions and can honestly say I am almost in no pain. I’ve now returned to daily walking, exercise and working at full capacity. I am currently seeing Dr. Todd twice a week for laser therapy and adjustments and am happy to say that I am feeling much better and avoided surgery.  I highly recommend decompression therapy!” – Frank K.

“I woke up for 5 years sore and stiff. I knew that Dr Todd was great with getting me back on track. When he suggested the decompression table I was curious but cautious because of the price. I am so glad I jumped in with both feet!!  Within a week and a half I was back to jumping out of bed well rested and even playing tennis 5 times a week. If nothing else I get 20 mins to lay down and take time for myself to relax. Pro tip, take a kindle and ear buds and watch some Netflix while you lay there and get your life back.” – Janette B.
