Chiropractic Care for Headache & Migraine Relief

Headaches and migraines are surprisingly common and can wreak havoc upon everyday life. Our chiropractor in Stow at Stow Family Chiropractic is here to help relieve the debilitating pain of headaches and migraines with chiropractic treatment. In order to help our patients fully, we believe in educating them about the condition they may have and how our treatment methods can relieve the cause of their pain.

Understanding the Warning Symptoms

Both headaches and migraines can bring about pain, but it is important to differentiate between the two to better understand the cause of the pain. Understanding what you are experiencing can help pinpoint the source of your discomfort. Headaches can usually range from mild to severe pain, specifically occurring on the temples, forehead, and back of the neck.

While headaches can take place anywhere in the head, migraines normally exist on one side of the head. Migraines can cause nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to light and sound, short-term loss of vision, and seeing flashes of light or spots. In some cases, migraine attacks can persist for several hours or days.

The Difference Between Headaches and Migraines

Headaches and migraines can be preceded by warning symptoms, such as Auras, that can cause flashes of light, blind spots and other vision changes and can last anywhere from twenty to sixty minutes. For many, headaches and migraines tend to begin in childhood. Still, some may not experience intense head pain until adolescence or early adulthood. While headaches tend to cause persistent pain, migraines often feature increased pain across four stages:

  • Prodrome
  • Aura
  • Attack
  • Postdrome

Of course, not everyone who experiences migraines will encounter each stage. Headaches and migraines can be elusive and difficult to target, which makes it very important to seek help as soon as either is determined.

How a Chiropractor Can Help

Migraines and headaches are often left undiagnosed and untreated, resulting in constant day-to-day pain that is difficult to alleviate. Dr. Todd can help you understand, diagnose and treat the cause of your migraines and headaches by allowing the nervous system to function properly and eliminating the cause of the pain. Chiropractic adjustments, therapeutic laser and spinal decompression are all methods that can help to reduce the frequency and pain of headaches and migraines.

Chiropractic Adjustments

Chiropractic adjustments can help with acute and chronic neck discomfort, which can reduce and even prevent future migraines or headaches. Subluxations in the neck could be irritating the nervous system, which could be the root cause of the pain. A gentle adjustment to the cervical spine releases nerve pressure and tense muscles that interrupt nerve messaging from the neck to the brain and pull the vertebrae out of alignment.

Therapeutic Laser

Cold Laser Therapy (also known as therapeutic laser) is a 5-minute treatment that reduces inflammation, pain, swelling, and speeds up the process of healing. Therapeutic laser also improves the flow of blood and oxygen to the brain that has been depleted.

Spinal Decompression

Spinal Decompression is an effective solution for chronic headaches and migraines that result from disc issues in the cervical spine. Using a gentle intermittent digitally controlled distraction (stretching), decompression unloads and separates the joints of the spine, resulting in reduced pressure on spinal discs and facet joints.
